Our nationally recognized Internet & Data Protection Group offers the full complement of counseling, regulatory and litigation services for clients that store and transmit information, including data, voice, sounds and images.  We work with clients who run and manage Internet-based businesses, ISPs, Internet Portals, social networking sites and interactive video games to minimize their business risks.

On the Internet side, we help clients by providing practical business-friendly advice on issues such as: transmitting and storing user-generated content, DMCA implementation and compliance, conducting email marketing consistent with CAN-SPAM, complying with laws pertaining to gambling, and adult-content.  We also help service providers on government compliance issues that arise under ECPA, CALEA, FISA, Cable and Wiretap Acts and in implementing Wiretap, FISA, Pen Register and Trap & Trace Orders and NSLs.

Sonnenschein was the first national law firm with a full-service computer forensics/incident response and Internet investigations laboratory.  The Investigations, Computer Forensics & e-Discovery (ICE) lab supports Sonnenschein lawyers with timely and effective analysis of electronic evidence of Internet threats, and assessments of underground Internet communities.  The services provided by the lab significantly reduce the costs associated with retaining outside consulting firms.

Protecting the privacy and security of data is critical in today’s business environment. Our attorneys and professionals design and implement compliance programs governing the collection, use, protection, disclosure and management of data. We help develop policies covering subpoena compliance, data protection, incident response, breach notification, privacy and records management. We also advise clients on internal and external investigations and develop employee-use and anti-piracy programs to combat the infringement or theft of intellectual property and abuse of computer resources. When our clients develop new products and services, we help them tailor risk-management strategies to minimize potential liabilities before and after launch.
