Internet Monitoring
As use of the Internet becomes increasingly prevalent, the number of ways in which businesses can be adversely affected by improper Internet activity grows rapidly. Companies are finding that their Web sites are being spoofed, their trade names are being used illegally, and message boards are detailing how their products can be hacked. Additionally, “chat rooms” and other Internet sites can yield a significant amount of information about industry speculation, rumor or breaking news. Internet monitoring and investigation can proactively address these problems, and help anticipate and prevent reputational and/or financial harm.
Computer crime analysts in the Information Security & Internet Enforcement (ISIE) investigation lab have the ability and knowledge to: monitor the Internet to determine if external entities are potentially damaging a client's product, service, or brand; identify the real names and addresses of violators; and take appropriate enforcement action, including sending Cease and Desist or Takedown notices, where appropriate.
In addition, Internet monitoring can provide valuable and timely information about industry perceptions of your company or those of your competitors. Our services include reviewing:
- Forum Web sites and newsgroups
- Message boards
- eBay and other auction sites
- IRC and other Internet chatrooms
- Relevant Web sites specific to the client or industry
