Professional Societies & Trade Associations
Sonnenschein’s Health Care Practice Group has extensive experience representing health care professional societies and trade associations, including medical specialty societies, associations of health insurers, health care information technology associations, and state-wide associations of physician groups. For example:
- Sonnenschein attorneys assist these entities in preparing articles of incorporation and bylaws, developing corporate governance structures, and obtaining Federal and State tax exemptions.
- The Firm provides advice to professional societies on the full range of public policy issues, including those relating to reimbursement policy, fraud and abuse, and medical privacy. In connection with such representations, Sonnenschein attorneys draft regulatory comments, prepare draft legislation, and develop briefing materials.
- Sonnenschein counsels trade associations on a variety of antitrust issues, developing and implementing strategies to advocate client positions and facilitating discussions with relevant Federal agencies.
- The Firm represents professional societies and trade associations in connection with complex policy and business arrangements between association members and the Federal government. We work closely with association members and staff to formulate positions and serve as policy counsel to associations during meetings with both Executive Branch and Congressional staff.
