Alternative Energy Resources/Public Utilities & Power Generation

We have broad experience helping energy developers site and obtain permits for fossil-fired and renewable generating plants and transmission facilities.  We are fully prepared to assist clients with the traditional set of regulatory matters connected to construction and operation of gas- and coal-fired power plants (e.g., Clean Air Act, Clean Water Act, FERC and local PUC interconnection  rules, federal agency funding programs and federal, state, and local land use provisions) as well as issues unique to wind and hydropower facilities, such as the Endangered Species Act,  Federal Power Act, Electric Consumer Protection Act, and certain tax-related provisions.  In this regard, Sonnenschein has recently served as lead environmental counsel to the developer of a large wind-power complex and has been active in a major hydropower relicensing matter.
