Katherine Funk Also Presents in Second FTC Workshop

On March 9-10, 2010, the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) will hold, at its headquarters in Washington, D.C., a two-day workshop entitled "How Will Journalism Survive the Internet Age?" which further explores how the Internet has affected journalism. Sonnenschein partner Katherine Funk will discuss the antitrust issues that may arise as news reporting adversaries combine resources.  Others participating in the workshop include representatives from print, online, broadcast, and cable news organizations; academics; consumer advocates; bloggers; and new media, as well as government officials.

On March 10 at 2:30 p.m. ET, Ms. Funk will co-present "Competitor Collaborations to Aid Journalism," discussing the ability that companies currently have to collaborate and whether there is a need to give news companies an "antitrust exemption" to enable their survival.

On September 17, 2009, Internet, Communications & Data Protection Group partner Douglas Bonner moderated an expert panel of antitrust lawyers, including Michael Altschul, Senior Vice President & General Counsel of CTIA - The Wireless Association, and Donald J. Russell, partner at Robbins, Russell, Englert, Orseck, Untereiner & Sauber LLP and former Chief of the Antitrust Division's Telecommunications Task Force from 1994 to 2001.  The Q&A discussion examined 1) Antitrust policy changes at the DOJ; 2) The impact of vertically integrated telecommunications companies on competition; 3) FCC investigation of wireless industry practices; 4) The role Congress plays in investigations of the telecom industry; and 5) the results of private antitrust actions against telecom/video providers.
