White Collar & Government Investigations Lawyer Glenn Colton Moves to Sonnenschein

April 13, 2009

(NEW YORK, April 13, 2009) — Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal LLP today announced that Glenn C. Colton, a former assistant U.S. attorney for the Southern District of New York, has joined the national law firm as a partner in its Litigation Practice and co-chair of its White Collar and Government Investigations Practice.  Colton practices in the areas of white collar criminal and complex civil litigation, as well as government and internal investigations.  He comes to Sonnenschein from Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati and will reside in the firm’s New York office.

“Glenn is a very impressive white collar and civil litigator, with outstanding trial skills,” said Michael H. Barr, national chair of Sonnenschein’s Litigation Practice.  “As we prepare for what is likely to be an increase in fraud investigations and litigation surrounding the financial crisis, Glenn’s expertise will be a big asset for us, not just in New York but nationally as well.”

Colton represents companies and individuals in actions and investigations conducted by the U.S. Department of Justice, Securities and Exchange Commission and various state attorneys general.  He has also represented a variety of companies, ranging from Fortune 500 to private companies in complex civil litigation in state and federal courts around the country.  Colton founded and played a critical role in building Wilson Sonsini’s New York white collar/government enforcement and civil litigation practices, and led teams in a wide range of substantial white collar and civil matters.

Prior to joining Wilson Sonsini, Colton spent nearly 10 years as a federal prosecutor, during which time he received numerous national awards including one of the Justice Department’s highest honors, the Distinguished Service Award.  During his tenure as an assistant U.S. attorney, Colton worked in both the criminal and civil divisions of the U.S. attorney’s office, serving as lead or co-lead counsel in approximately 25 trials.  All but one of those trials ended in conviction, government verdict or, in the few cases that settled during trial, a resolution on favorable terms for the government.  Colton also argued numerous appeals before the U.S. Court of Appeals in criminal and civil cases and in a friend of the court capacity.

“Moving to Sonnenschein presents me with a great opportunity to be part of a national white-collar practice and a vibrant, growing New York office,” said Colton.  “The firm’s deep relationships in various industries, such as finance and health care, will fit perfectly with my practice and serve my clients well.”

Colton received a J.D. degree from New York University School of Law and a B.S. degree, summa cum laude, from the State University of New York at Binghamton.
