Alisa M. Bergman Joins Sonnenschein's Internet, Communications & Data Protection Group

(WASHINGTON, May 8, 2008) - Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal LLP today announced the addition of Alisa M. Bergman as a partner to its Internet, Communications & Data Protection Group.  Bergman joins the law firm’s Washington, D.C. office from Venable LLP and will relocate to the firm’s Brussels’ office in June.

Bergman is a highly-regarded attorney and a leading authority on international data privacy, internet advertising and marketing law and policy, and children’s privacy issues.  Bergman represents companies, nonprofits, and industry groups before Congress, federal agencies, and state legislatures on privacy, data security, and e-commerce matters.  She counsels clients on compliance in the children’s, financial, and health care, privacy areas, as well as on issues surrounding e-mail and wireless marketing, security breach notification, and data safeguards.  In addition, she has extensive experience conducting multinational data protection reviews to assist with worldwide privacy compliance and risk management, and has advised clients on international trans-border data flow strategies.

As a partner at Venable LLP, Bergman worked with clients to design and implement solutions to privacy and security challenges, identify strategic objectives regarding customer information, and comply with existing and emerging data protection laws.  Previously, she was partner and global privacy coordinator at the firm now known as DLA Piper , where she led the firm’s international privacy practice in the United States and conducted a number of multinational data protection reviews to assist clients with worldwide privacy compliance and risk management.

Bergman received a J.D. degree from Georgetown University Law Center and a B.A. degree from the University of California Los Angeles.
