Sonnenschein's David Papier Named Chair of New Jersey Bar Association's Committee on Venture Finance

May 7, 2008

(SHORT HILLS, N.J., May 7, 2008)--National law firm Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal LLP today announced that David J. Papier, a partner in its Short Hills, N.J., office, has been named chair of the New Jersey State Bar Association’s newly formed Venture Finance Committee.  The committee will serve as a resource to members of the New Jersey Bar who are engaged in representing technology entrepreneurs, emerging growth technology companies and venture capital firms.  It will also examine and monitor trends, current issues and other concerns affecting venture-backed companies.

“David’s selection reflects his recognized national standing in the venture technology community, and his many years’ experience serving emerging growth companies in New Jersey and across the country,” said Victor H. Boyajian, national chair of Sonnenschein’s Venture Technology group.  “David brings to bear not only his own experience, but also the resources of a strategically growing practice group that has risen to the top 10 firms nationally for venture capital deals closed in 2007, according to figures reported in Dow Jones’ Private Equity Analyst.”

Papier has a broad background in corporate and securities law.  He represents both private and public companies in an array of transactions including securities, venture capital, mergers and acquisitions, and other strategic matters.  He works actively with emerging growth and other technology companies with respect to accessing capital, and he provides general corporate counseling at all stages of a company’s growth process, from incorporation through exit.  Papier also works with management in the areas of finance, executive compensation and board governance, and he regularly advises venture capital funds with respect to the acquisition of their portfolio companies.

“I am honored by this appointment,” noted Papier.  “The committee’s work will go a long way toward raising the visibility of the venture technology industry in New Jersey.”

Papier received a J.D. degree from Fordham University School of Law and a B.A. degree, magna cum laude, from Yeshiva University.
