Tax Attorney Scott Brian Clark Joins Sonnenschein

April 28, 2008

(NEW YORK, April 28, 2008) - Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal LLP announced today that Scott Brian Clark has joined the national law firm as a partner in its Taxation Practice.  Clark will reside in Sonnenschein’s New York office, where his practice will focus on state and local tax law, including planning, audit and controversy work.  He was previously a partner at Thelen Reid Brown Raysman & Steiner LLP.

“Scott will be instrumental in growing our practice and leading our state and local tax group.  His deep experience with state and local tax law, plus his expertise working with technology and communications companies, will be of immense value to our clients,” said Marc D. Teitelbaum, national chair of Sonnenschein’s Taxation Practice.  “As an experienced tax litigator, Scott will also provide substantial expertise as we expand our focus in this critical area.”

Clark is a well known tax attorney with more than two decades of legal experience, particularly with telecom, broadband and Internet companies.  He served for many years as an associate tax counsel at the GTE Corporation (now Verizon Communications), acting as its chief legal adviser on all state tax audit, protest and litigation matters.  He also worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers, where he was a partner and co-leader of the tax and legal services communications practice and served as the lead state tax adviser to many communications, e-commerce, media and technology companies throughout the country.  Clark was later the general counsel and chief financial officer of an e-commerce IPO portal site.

Clark has litigated several significant tax cases over the years.  He was involved with the formation and activities of the Congressional Advisory Commission on Electronic Commerce, as well as similar efforts at the National Tax Association and various telecommunications industry groups throughout the country.  He has served as a board member, officer or chair of numerous key tax, legal, and business organizations, and is on the executive committee of the tax section of the Connecticut Bar Association and the New York State Taxpayer’s Advisory Council.

“Sonnenschein’s tax group is highly regarded for the sophisticated level of work that it does on behalf of its clients,” said Clark.  “This is a terrific opportunity and I am delighted to be joining the firm.”

Clark is a frequent lecturer at various tax and industry institutes and conferences.  He received a J.D. degree from Pace Law School and an LL.M. degree in taxation from Quinnipiac University School of Law.  He received a B.B.A. degree from George Washington University.
