March 4, 2008

(WASHINGTON, March 4, 2008)—Well-known antitrust attorney Andrew G. Berg has joined Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal LLP as a partner in its Washington, D.C. office and will head the firm’s antitrust/competition practice, the national law firm announced today.  Berg comes to Sonnenschein from King & Spalding LLP.

“Andy is one of the preeminent antitrust attorneys in the country,” said Elliott I. Portnoy, Sonnenschein chairman.  “His new role as national head of our antitrust/competition practice represents a significant step in the expansion of this important area for Sonnenschein.”

Berg advises clients across a wide range of industries, from newly emerging technologies to supermarkets, on mergers and acquisitions and other antitrust-related matters before the Federal Trade Commission (FTC), the Antitrust Division of the Department of Justice and state attorneys general, as well as in private litigation.  His practice also includes consumer protection and unfair and deceptive trade practices in the advertising, marketing and financial practices areas.  Additionally, he counsels clients on a wide range of distribution law issues, including the Robinson-Patman Act.

“Sonnenschein is well known and highly regarded for its antitrust work on behalf of many of the nation’s leading companies,” stated Berg.  “The firm, with its multiple integrated offices and practices, provides the ideal platform to take my merger, litigation and counseling practice to the next level.”

Berg’s experience includes a stint at the FTC, as well as the representation of clients in many merger reviews at the antitrust agencies and extensive litigation in federal and state courts.  An author of numerous law review articles, Berg often participates in professional panels examining current antitrust issues affecting mergers and acquisitions, as well as consumer protection issues.  He received a J.D. degree from Vanderbilt University, where he was associate articles editor of the law review, and an A.B. degree, cum laude, from Harvard.
