National Indian Gaming Commission Director of Enforcement Joins Sonnenschein in Washington, D.C.

Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal LLP announced today that Alan R. Fedman has joined the firm as of counsel.  Fedman, who will reside in the firm’s Washington, D.C. office, will work extensively with the multi-disciplinary Indian Law and Tribal Representation Group, which has attorneys in offices throughout the firm. 

“Alan will be an integral player in the firm’s growing Indian Law and Tribal Representation Group and we are delighted that he is joining us,” said Elliott Portnoy, Sonnenschein’s chairman.  “His experience as supervisor of federal oversight of the $23 billion Indian gaming industry and work with federal enforcement agencies will be an invaluable asset to our clients.”

For the past 15 years, Fedman directed a national staff responsible for regulating 400 Indian gaming operations.  In addition to coordinating investigations with federal, state and tribal law enforcement agencies, he was responsible for protecting the gaming operations from criminal influence and coordinating the National Indian Gaming Commission’s regulatory compliance activities.  Fedman also previously served on a U.S. Senate special committee on investigations looking into the federal government’s management of Indian-owned natural resources.

Fedman earned a J.D. degree from the University of Oklahoma College of Law.  He received a an M.A. degree in comparative politics from University of Sussex in England and a B.A. degree in political science from Brown University.
