Sonnenschein Expands Charlotte Office

December 3, 2007

(CHARLOTTE, N.C., December 3, 2007)—National law firm Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal LLP announced today that a team of four litigators led by Charlotte attorney Fred M. Wood, Jr. has joined its office here. The group, which comes to Sonnenschein from Nelson Mullins Riley & Scarborough LLP, includes partner C. Marshall Lindsay, of counsel Virginia “Ginger” Theis Daly and associate Evan M. Sauda.

“Fred and his team have a well established and highly visible litigation practice in Charlotte and throughout the Southeast and represent many of the region’s blue-chip companies, as well as several national companies with ties to the area.” said Jay Suhr, managing partner of Sonnenschein’s Charlotte office.  “Their recruitment is an important step in the growth of the office, as we expand to serve a broad range of our clients’ needs.”

The group focuses primarily on complex commercial, business and real estate litigation.  They also regularly handle product liability, contract disputes, business torts and construction litigation.  Wood himself has represented companies in a variety of matters, ranging from cases involving securities class actions, toxic torts, and unfair business practices and methods of competition to those regarding the North Carolina Trade Secrets Protection Act, the Telecommunications Act of 1996, and bad faith litigation and treaty disputes in the reinsurance industry.

“Sonnenschein provides an outstanding national platform upon which to expand our relationships with existing clients as well as to develop new ones,” stated Wood.  “Marshall, Ginger, Evan and I are excited about joining the Charlotte office at such a crucial time and look forward to contributing to its success.”

Sonnenschein opened its Charlotte office in April 2007, when a group of 18 capital markets attorneys headed by Suhr, Jonathan Nugent and James Tucker joined the firm.  The addition of Wood and his team brings the number of lawyers in the office to 25.  They include Jonathan Vogel, a former assistant U.S. attorney for the Western District of North Carolina and deputy general counsel at the U.S. Department of Education, who joined Sonnenschein as a partner in June.

Sonnenschein serves the legal needs of many of the world’s most admired businesses, nonprofits and notable individuals.  With offices across the United States and a global reach throughout the Americas, Asia, Europe and the Middle East, we are well positioned to help our clients prosper and grow.  For more information, visit www.sonnenschein.com.
