Sonnenschein Adds Venture Technology Attorney Chip Korn

November 13, 2007

(NEW YORK, November 13, 2007)-- Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal LLP today announced that venture technology lawyer Peter “Chip” L. Korn, Jr. has joined the national law firm as a partner in its Corporate Practice Group.  Korn, who is highly regarded within the venture community, will reside in the firm’s New York office where his practice will focus on venture capital and emerging growth technology companies.

“Chip is a dynamic attorney who is well respected within the venture community,” said Paul A. Gajer, national chair of Sonnenschein’s Corporate Practice Group.  “He will help expand our expertise in the venture area and allow us to make significant additions to the Corporate group’s overall client base.”

Korn’s clients include venture-backed companies across a broad industry spectrum, including both information technology and life sciences.  He advises company clients on issues related to organizational structure, the issuance of securities, exit events and day-to-day corporate counseling.  Korn also counsels on matters related to patent and trademark concerns, with respect to the development, protection, commercialization and enforcement of intellectual property rights.  He frequently represents venture capital funds, secondary venture funds, buyout funds, family offices and other investors in equity and debt financings and outright acquisitions of portfolio companies.

Korn’s hiring represents the continuation of an ongoing expansion by Sonnenschein’s Corporate Group to gain greater market visibility and penetration.  This latest move is expected to add significantly to the firm’s capabilities in the private equity and venture capital sectors.

“Sonnenschein is a real leader in the venture technology field with a well-established reputation,” noted Korn.  “I am excited by the prospect of helping to grow this key practice even further.”

Korn received a J.D. degree from Duke University School of Law and a B.A. degree from Georgetown University.  He joins Sonnenschein from Fish & Richardson P.C. where he helped to establish the firm’s venture and corporate practice.  Prior to that, he worked at Morrison & Foerster LLP and Winston & Strawn LLP.  Korn is a contributing editor for the Encyclopedia of Private Equity and Venture Capital, for which he has authored a quarterly survey of venture capital terms, and is a co-author of Leveraged Buyouts, published by American Lawyer Media’s Law Journal Press.
