Dr. Elie H. Gendloff Joins Sonnenschein's Intellectual Property & Technology Group

October 17, 2007

(NEW YORK, October 17, 2007) -- Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal LLP today announced the addition of three biotechnology professionals to its rapidly growing Intellectual Property & Technology Group.  Dr. Elie H. Gendloff joins the national law firm's New York office as of counsel, while Dr. Christopher Marion and Marcellus A. Chase join the St. Louis office as a scientific advisor and an associate, respectively.

Gendloff represents cutting-edge research institutions and pharmaceutical and other biotechnology companies in patent prosecution, licensing and counseling in the areas of molecular biology, genetics, biochemistry, microbiology, medical treatments, pharmaceuticals, plant and agricultural biotechnology, chemistry, and medical devices.

Gendloff's relationship with institutions such as Columbia University and Feinstein Institute for Medical Research will enhance Sonnenschein's growing work with top-tier universities and emerging biotech companies.  He also will work with the firm's Venture Technology Group to fulfill the needs of venture capital fund clients in their efforts to commercialize innovative technologies.

"Elie is a talented biotech patent attorney we are proud to add to our ranks.  His biotechnology practice is an integral part of the firm's continued growth in these important areas," notes Carol Anne Been, national chair of Sonnenschein's Intellectual Property & Technology Group.  "The addition of Chris and Marcellus in St. Louis further deepens  the firm's biotech practice, including our representation of clients such as Monsanto, Sigma-Aldrich and Washington University in St. Louis.  In combination, our recent additions further expand our in-depth knowledge and expertise in biotechnology, pharmaceuticals and medical devices to provide valuable bench strength to our strong national life sciences intellectual property practice.  They will help us provide our clients with innovative services and results."

"Sonnenschein's commitment to intellectual property law and its tremendous growth in the biotechnology field is remarkable," said Gendloff.  "This is an important field that intersects global issues, such as the national urgency in energy and environmental stresses as concerns mount over climate change.  It also plays a vital role in food and nutrition innovations that affect the world's overall health and wellness.  I am proud to join a firm that recognizes the significance of these issues to clients and strengthens its services accordingly."

Gendloff received a J.D. degree from University of Wisconsin, a Ph.D. and M.S. degrees in plant pathology from Michigan State University, and a B.S. degree in plant science from the University of California, Davis. Marion is completing a Ph.D. degree from the Washington University School of Medicine in molecular biology and microbial pathogenesis and received a B.S. degree in molecular biology from McGill University in Montreal.  Chase received a J.D. degree from St. Louis University School of Law and a B.A. degree, cum laude, in physics and communication from the University of Missouri. Chase joins Sonnenschein after handling patent matters in the legal department at St. Louis University.
