Addition of nationally recognized lawyer bolsters law firm’s Information Security & Internet Enforcement Group

(WASHINGTON, January 23, 2007)— Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal LLP today announced that Randy V. Sabett has joined the law firm as a partner in its Information Security & Internet Enforcement Practice Group.  Sabett, a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), will reside in Sonnenschein’s Washington, D.C. office, which also holds the firm’s in-house forensics lab.

“With his impressive depth of legal and technical knowledge in the information security field, Randy will greatly enhance our group’s capabilities,” said Marc Zwillinger, national chair of Sonnenschein’s Information Security & Internet Enforcement Practice Group.

Sabett’s practice focuses on information security compliance issues, data breach prevention, and counseling on liability for Internet technology.  He works with clients on such issues as privacy, identity theft, and compliance with the Sarbanes-Oxley, HIPAA, and Gramm-Leach-Bliley laws, along with state information security laws.  A registered U.S. patent attorney and former crypto engineer, Sabett also prepares and prosecutes patents in such technology areas as authentication, information security, and encryption.  Sabett joins Sonnenschein from Cooley Godward Kronish LLP, where he was the founder of the Information Security & Cybercrime practice group.

“Information security law is one of Sonnenschein’s premier practice areas,” noted Sabett.  “The strength of Sonnenschein’s Information Security & Internet Enforcement Group, combined with the firm’s growth plans, makes this a tremendously exciting time to be coming aboard.”

Sabett received a J.D. degree from the University of Baltimore and a B.S. degree in computer engineering from Syracuse University.  He is an adjunct professor at George Washington University, where he teaches information policy.  He is also a co-chair of the American Bar Association’s Information Security Committee of the Section of Science and Technology Law and an active member of the Security Committee within the Northern Virginia Technology Council.  A frequent lecturer, Sabett has most recently spoken to the Institute for Applied Network Security, the SAFE-BioPharma Association and the ANSI Identity Theft Special Project.
