Sonnenschein Adds Litigator Steven Velkei in Los Angeles

(LOS ANGELES, June 5, 2007)—Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal LLP announced today that Steven A. Velkei has joined the firm as a partner in its national Litigation Group. Velkei will reside in Sonnenschein’s Los Angeles office.
“Steve has litigated cases in a broad array of industries, and his experience will benefit our clients across the United States and abroad,” said Michael Barr, national chair of Sonnenschein’s Litigation Group. “We are thrilled that Steve has decided to join our team.”
Velkei has successfully litigated class actions as well as complex business, securities and entertainment disputes. His clients include major financial institutions, prominent Southern California developers and hotel owners and several independent film entertainment companies. He also represents one of the largest publicly-traded real estate investment trusts in the country and its affiliated entities.
“Sonnenschein’s litigation group has a stellar reputation and the national scope of the practice will provide me with great opportunities to expand my practice,” said Velkei.
Velkei joins Sonnenschein from Liner Yankelevitz Sunshine & Regenstreif LLP. He was previously counsel at Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom LLP. Velkei received a J.D. degree, with honors, from University of California, Hastings College of the Law and a B.A. degree from Princeton University. He was named a Southern California Super Lawyer in 2006 and 2007, a Lawdragon New Star in 2006 and sits on the board of the Los Angeles Business Council.
