Intellectual Property and Technology Practice Head Carol Anne Been Sees Growth in 2007
January 16, 2007
Carol Anne Been, chair of Sonnenschein's national Intellectual Property & Technology Group, expects growth for 2007.
“We are looking to expand our intellectual property footprint over the next year as we continue to broaden and deepen our national intellectual property practice," Been said. "We anticipate a year of exciting new developments in intellectual property, not only for our firm, but as we see more Supreme Court and Congressional activity addressing intellectual property issues."
Been, who joined Sonnenschein in 1988, has extensive experience in trademark, copyright, advertising, e-commerce, computer, media, entertainment, publishing, privacy and cyberspace law, and is involved in intellectual property counseling, transactions and litigation. As chair of the Intellectual Property & Technology Group, she also works with patent practitioners on management of the firm's dynamic patent practice. Over the next year, she expects to see more activity in the life sciences, bio tech and climate change fields, as well as electronic delivery of entertainment and other content.
Been has worked extensively on intellectual property matters for clients and cases across the United States, and also manages client matters and disputes concerning intellectual property in many countries around the world. She is a World Intellectual Property Organization panelist for domain name dispute proceedings. Recently, she handled litigation successfully enforcing the Digital Millennium Copyright Act’s anti-circumvention provisions. Currently, Been serves on a subcommittee of the International Trademark Association and on the board of directors of Lawyers for the Creative Arts, a not-for-profit coordinator of pro bono legal services for the Chicago-area arts community. She regularly lectures and leads seminars on intellectual property issues and publishes articles about intellectual property law issues.
Been received a J.D. degree, magna cum laude, from the University of Illinois School of Law and a B.S. degree in journalism from the University of Illinois. She is based in Sonnenschein’s Chicago office.
