February 6, 2006
(LOS ANGELES, February 6, 2006)—Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal LLP today announced that Glenn D. Gritzner has joined the law firm in Los Angeles as a managing director in its national Public Law & Policy Strategies Group. Most recently, he was special assistant to the superintendent, director of external affairs and administration, and coordinator of local government relations for the Los Angeles Unified School District.
“I worked closely with Glenn on three successful bond election campaigns for the school district and was impressed by his ability to reach out to the many interest groups involved and develop strategies that addressed the concerns of all stakeholders,” said Darry Sragow, who leads Sonnenschein’s public policy practice on the West Coast. “Glenn’s deep understanding of the political and policy issues and institutions in Southern California and the entire state will be invaluable to our rapidly growing roster of clients in California.”
In addition to his tenure with the Los Angeles Unified School District, Gritzner has served as the executive director of the Southern California Transportation and Land Use Coalition and editor of two of Southern California’s most influential public policy publications, The Planning Report and Metro Investment Report.
“Sonnenschein’s public policy practice is highly regarded in Washington and in state capitols across the country,” noted Gritzner. “I look forward to working with this dynamic team to expand its presence in California and throughout the West Coast.”
Gritzner is a current board member and past president of the Los Angeles County Young Democrats. He also serves on the boards of Heart of Los Angeles Youth, an after-school youth development and education program, and Citizens’ Unit for Participation, Housing and Community Development, a citizens’ group charged with overseeing city expenditure of more than $150 million in Community Development Block Grant funds. Gritzner is a member of the City of Los Angeles Affordable Housing Crisis Task Force and an alumnus of the American Council of Young Political Leaders. In addition, he was named a member of “Generation Next: The 35-and-Under Movers and Shakers Shaping Politics” by LA Downtown News.
Gritzner received a master’s degree in public policy from the John F. Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University and a B.A. degree, magna cum laude, from the University of California, Los Angeles.
