Hadjis Joins Sonnenschein, Named Chair of National Patent Litigation Practice

Washington, D.C. office hires additional distinguished patent litigators and other skilled professionals as part of expansion
(WASHINGTON, April 25, 2006)—Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal LLP today announced that Alexander J. Hadjis has joined the law firm as partners in its Washington, D.C. office, where Hadjis will be the national chair of the patent litigation practice. Hadjis comes to Sonnenschein from Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP, where he was head of that firm’s patent litigation practice in Washington, D.C. Seven other professionals, including five additional attorneys, with extensive patent litigation experience are also joining Sonnenschein from Weil.

Hadjis has served as lead counsel in cases before several federal district courts and the United States International Trade Commission (USITC). In one highly publicized case involving a billion-dollar patent pooling arrangement, he was responsible for successfully employing an antitrust-based patent misuse trial defense against one of the world’s biggest electronics companies.

Hadjis’s practice focuses on complex patent litigation. He also litigates cases involving the interface between intellectual property and antitrust law, and he has extensive experience litigating cases involving technology standards. Hadjis has litigated patent, antitrust and breach of contract cases that cover the semiconductor, optical storage media, liquid crystal display, telecommunications, electronic systems, computer network, software, xerography, chemical and automotive component industries.
With a J.D. degree from the University of Pittsburgh, an LL.M. degree from George Washington University Law School, and a B.S. degree in electrical engineering from Ohio State University, Hadjis clerked for Judge Wilson Cowen on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He is registered to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trade Office.
