Lauren Mack Joins Sonnenschein as Of Counsel

(SAN FRANCISCO, April 17, 2006)—Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal LLP today announced that Lauren K. Mack has joined the law firm as an of counsel in its San Francisco office and as a member of the national Health Care Group and Public Finance & Government Law Group.

Mack has more than 20 years of experience counseling hospitals, health care organizations and other tax-exempt organizations in connection with a wide variety of tax-compliance, tax-exemption and tax-planning matters. She provides advice regarding corporate, governance and transactional matters, including joint venture structuring and physician relationships. Mack also regularly assists clients in their interactions with the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) with respect to exemption applications, private letter ruling requests, audits and closing agreements.
A nationally recognized tax-exempt finance attorney who focuses on the tax aspects of public finance transactions, Mack’s experience covers the full range of tax-exempt financings. She provides tax assistance as bond counsel and counsels borrowers (including health care organizations, cultural institutions, schools and universities), underwriters and banks (as liquidity and/or credit providers) with respect to tax matters. She advises clients on the structuring of transactions and post-closing tax compliance and represents them before the IRS in connection with audits, closing agreements under the Voluntary Compliance Program, and private letter rulings.
Mack is a frequent speaker on tax-exempt organization and finance issues. She is active in the Tax and Health Law Sections of the American Bar Association and chaired the National Association of Bond Lawyers’ 2006 Tax & Securities Law Institute.
Mack received a J.D. degree, with distinction, from Duke University School of Law and a B.B.A. degree from the University of Notre Dame.
