Leading Construction Lawyers Join Sonnenschein in St. Louis

(ST. LOUIS, June 13, 2005)—Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal LLP today announced that Joseph A. Colagiovanni and John R. Haug have joined the law firm as partners in its St. Louis office and will be instrumental in building a national construction law practice. Formerly, both were partners with Bryan Cave LLP.

Colagiovanni’s practice centers on construction, architectural, engineering and development law (including related finance), both domestically and internationally. He has been involved in a wide variety of complex, large-scale construction projects, both as transactional counsel and as an advocate in dispute resolution proceedings. These have included hotel and resort developments in Phoenix, Orlando, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Houston, Chicago, Detroit, New York City, Canada and the Middle East, industrial and manufacturing facilities in Florida, California, Texas, Michigan, Illinois, Ohio, New York, Yemen, Mexico and China, and roadway and infrastructure developments in Dallas, San Francisco, Portland, San Diego, Detroit, Chicago, Indonesia and Chile. In St. Louis, Colagiovanni has been involved in many of the region’s most prominent construction projects, including the Kiel (Savvis) Center, the Donald Danforth Plant Science Center, the Pulitzer Foundation for the Arts, the BJC Campus Integration project, the Missouri History Museum expansion, the Missouri Botanical Garden’s Monsanto Center and Commerce Bank Education Center, 6 North (incorporating a “universal design” concept accessible to those with physical disabilities), the Ameristar Casino complex, the extension of Metrolink and the expansion of St. Louis Lambert International Airport.

Colagiovanni is an adjunct professor at Washington University Law School and is a frequent lecturer on construction law topics. He has spoken at the national conventions of the American Bar Association Forum on the Construction Industry, the Construction Specifications Institute, the American Public Transit Association and the American Society for Healthcare Engineering.  He also maintains a practice as a mediator and arbitrator and is a member of the American Arbitration Association’s Construction Arbitrator Master Panel, and conducts mediation and arbitration training programs for the AAA. He received an A.B. degree from Brown University and a J.D. degree from Boston University School of Law.

Haug’s practice focuses on both the transactional and dispute resolution aspects of construction, architectural, engineering and development law. He has represented numerous public and private owners, contractors and material suppliers on significant, complex construction projects throughout the United States, Canada, Mexico, Europe and the Middle East, including major sports complexes, chemical manufacturing and ethanol production facilities, hotel developments and historic renovations, highway and infrastructure projects, mass transit systems, regional malls, mixed use and multi-unit residential developments, casinos and prison facilities. Haug has been involved in numerous prominent construction and development projects in the bi-state area, including the Westin Cupples Station historic renovation, the Homer G. Phillips Hospital renovation, the Ameristar Casino complex, the St. Louis Enclave at Winghaven, the St. Louis Brewery Apartments, the Allen Market Housing Development, the St. Louis City School District/Vashon revitalization, the Vaughn Elderly Housing Development, the Laclede and Sarah Housing Development, the Parsons Place Housing Development, the 7th and Pine Parking Facility, the Missouri prison facility in Bonne Terre, and the revitalization of the 18th and Vine Jazz District in Kansas City, Missouri.

Haug is a member of the American Bar Association’s Forum on the Construction Industry and frequent lecturer on construction law topics. He also maintains a significant practice in the field of administrative law, and has represented numerous private and corporate entities before a variety of state and municipal administrative tribunals. He received a J.D. degree from the Washington University School of law and a B.A.degree, magna cum laude, from Westminster College in Fulton, Missouri.
