Three Corporate Lawyers Join Sonnenschein in Los Angeles

March 23, 2005

(LOS ANGELES, March 23, 2005)—Sonnenschein Nath & Rosenthal LLP today announced that a group of three corporate attorneys has joined the law firm’s national Corporate and Securities practice group in its Los Angeles office.  The group includes one partner, Victor H. Sim, and two associates, Michael W. Chou and Lilly S. Kim.  All previously practiced with Squire, Sanders & Dempsey L.L.P.

“We are delighted that Victor and his team chose Sonnenschein,” said Edwin Reeser, managing partner of Sonnenschein’s Los Angeles office.  “Their experience across a wide range of corporate and securities matters will help us provide clients, on the West Coast and nationally, with the highest quality legal service.”

Sim concentrates his practice on venture capital, business development, mergers and acquisitions, and corporate securities.  His representations include public companies, early-stage technology companies and venture capital funds.  He is experienced in business plan drafting, revenue models and strategic planning.  He also has handled diverse financing transactions, public offerings, strategic alliances and securities compliance matters.

As chief strategic officer and co-founder of HeyAnita, Inc., a privately-held voice access and Internet data company, Sim pitched, negotiated and closed its initial financing and formed a joint venture in Korea with Softbank and the TriGem Group.  He was responsible for the company’s international growth and oversaw the strategic direction of its operations.

Sim serves on the advisory boards of the American Bar Association’s Asia Law Initiative, UCLA’s Wireless Internet for the Mobile Enterprise Consortium and NeoStem, Inc.  He also is a board member of the Los Angeles chapter of the Korean-American Coalition, CAUSE and Nodus Technologies.  Last year, he was appointed to the California Regional Water Quality Control Board, Los Angeles Region.  He received a J.D. degree, with distinction, from the Emory University School of Law and a B.S. in foreign service from the Georgetown University.

Chou and Kim focus on general corporate and securities matters, including corporate formation, public and private financings, mergers and acquisitions, venture capital financings and representations of emerging growth companies.  A graduate of the UCLA School of Law, Chou also earned a B.A.degree with honors, magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, from Occidental College.  Kim received a J.D. degree cum laude and Order of the Coif from Loyola Law School in Los Angeles, where she was the executive editor of the International & Comparative Law Journal.  She has a B.S. degree from the University of Pennsylvania.  Both were named Southern California Super Lawyers Rising Stars by Los Angeles magazine in 2004.
