Charlotte, NC

Our Charlotte office has extensive legal capabilities in the areas of real estate, construction, capital markets, litigation, antitrust, white collar defense, Islamic finance and investment, insurance, competition and marketing practices, products and professional liability and Internet, communications and data protection.

The office includes national leaders in the areas of commercial real estate finance and equity investment by traditional and capital markets lenders.  These lawyers specialize in commercial mortgage-backed securities (CMBS) loans, real estate mortgage investment conduits (REMICs) and other trust vehicles.  The team also represents master and special servicers in the servicing of mortgage loan pools.  In addition to traditional CMBS finance, the group does a high volume of tenancy-in-common, floating rate and equity transactions.

Clients also turn to our Charlotte office because of our team’s experience in all types of commercial litigation, including: contracts, real estate, products liability, toxic tort, construction, telecommunications, reinsurance, class actions, and shareholder disputes, among other areas.  The Charlotte Litigation group includes a former federal prosecutor and a senior U.S. Department of Education attorney who represent corporate and individual clients with government inquiries and investigations.  These white collar matters encompass criminal, civil and administrative investigations by federal agencies and state attorneys general, as well as compliance advice relating to the Bank Secrecy Act’s anti-money laundering requirements and the Higher Education Act’s anti-inducement provisions.

Litigators in our Charlotte office have handled cases at both the trial and appellate levels in state and federal courts throughout North Carolina and across the country.  Our Charlotte lawyers are experienced in using alternative dispute resolution techniques to handle cases outside the judicial system.  They also provide business counseling and advise clients on ways to address issues before they surface as problems, minimize risk and exposure, and resolve disputes prior to formal litigation.  The Litigation Practice combines the experience and skill of our Charlotte litigators with that of more than 350 Sonnenschein litigators in offices nationwide.
