Event Description: Sonnenschein partner Jeff Fort spoke on the "Building Tribal Energy Resources," panel at Information Management Network's 7th Semiannual Native American Finance Conference, on October 15, 2007 in Ledyard, CT.  Congressional legislation has opened the door for Tribes to enter into the energy and alternative energy business. The potential exists for Tribes to get funding for natural resources such as coal, wind, water, oil, gas and methane. This presentation explored existing opportunities for Tribes as well as information on how to break into this lucrative market.

And representing tribal Real Estate, partner Robert M. Johnson spoke on investing, leasing and developing projects on the reservations vs off-reservation. Many Tribes have successfully invested in real estate. However, it is a complex business requiring expert assistance. Developers who have worked with Tribes on non-gaming projects offered their own perspectives.
