The San Francisco Office diversity committee meets regularly to identify opportunities to implement the Diversity Plan in San Francisco and to promote diversity initiatives of particular interest to attorneys in the San Francisco office. The committee consists of partners, associates and staff members, many (but not all) of whom are diverse. One member of the committee serves on the firm’s Policy and Planning Committee, another serves on the firmwide diversity committee, and another serves on the San Francisco recruiting committee.
The committee has been particularly active with respect to recruiting diverse law students in the Bay Area. Committee members have developed relationships with local minority bar associations and representatives of law school organizations. In addition, members have participated in numerous diversity job fairs, including the Bay Area Diversity Career Fair, the LSAD Job Placement Night, and the National Hispanic Bar Association’s Job Fair.
The committee has organized and encouraged the San Francisco Office’s involvement in many local diversity-related events in various minority communities. In the past year, the office has participated in activities sponsored by the National Hispanic Bar Association, the Asian Law Caucus, the National Center for Lesbian Rights, the Asian Pacific Islander Legal Outreach, and the Minority Corporate Counsel Association.
Each year, Gary Hernandez, a member of the firm’s Policy and Planning Committee and the San Francisco diversity committee, hosts an event at his home for diverse attorneys and the local committee. The gathering is held during the summer and celebrates the diverse class of new associates hired each year.
