At Sonnenschein Mr. Bicks has been actively involved with the firm’s representation of official and unofficial committees and individual creditors and equity holders in various Chapter 11 cases, including the official creditors committee of Federal-Mogul and Powermate and the official equity committee of Loral Space & Communications and Hancock Fabrics. He also has represented purchasers of assets and significant creditors in Chapter 11 and Chapter 7 cases, including the plan sponsor of the successful reorganization of the 2000-plus unit Movie Gallery chain. He has also represented defendants in numerous adversary proceedings.
Before joining Sonnenschein in 2003, Mr. Bicks served as general counsel and, more recently, co-chairman and CEO of publicly held ICH Corpora-tion and its various operating subsidiaries. Those subsidiaries included Sybra, Inc., the second-largest franchisee of Arby's restaurants with 240 units, and Lyon's Restaurants, which owned and operated a 72-unit regional chain of family dining restaurants. In his most recent position with ICH and Sybra, Mr. Bicks’ duties involved the overall supervision of all aspects of the companies’ operations, finance, marketing and real estate and development activities. As general counsel, his duties involved supervision of all litigation and regulatory matters involving the company or its subsidiaries, supervision of human resources and risk management personnel, participation in corporate acquisitions and divestitures and preparation of required filings with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
Previously, Mr. Bicks was in private practice with New York City's Pryor Cashman Sherman & Flynn LLP, where he represented official and unofficial committees of creditors and equity holders in Chapter 11 cases, including those of ICH Corporation and RDM (Roadmaster) Industries.
Mr. Bicks also practiced with Milgrim Thomajan & Lee (and its successor firm), where he represented official and unofficial committees of creditors and equity holders in Chapter 11 cases, including those of USG Corporation, Grand Union Corporation and Eagle-Picher Industries. He served as an assistant district attorney in New York County, where he was assigned first to the Special Prosecutions Bureau and subsequently to the Rackets Bureau. His duties included investigating and prosecuting criminal cases involving municipal corruption, organized crime, labor racketeering and white collar crime. He also had extensive experience with court-supervised electronic surveillance.
Mr. Bicks also appears regularly on live television news programs on Fox News, Court TV and CNN as a legal analyst.
