Mr. Fernandez is a partner in the Real Estate Practice. He has diverse experience in the areas of corporate and real estate transactions, finance, acquisitions and dispositions, commercial leasing, and real estate development.
Mr. Fernandez has a significant amount of experience representing both landlords and tenants in commercial lease negotiations covering office, medical office, industrial, educational campus and mixed-use properties. This experience includes tenant representation of various nationally-based higher education providers, hedge funds and insurance companies.
Mr. Fernandez's ability to effectively represent tenant clients is bolstered by his knowledge and extensive experience representing landlord interests in leasing transactions. Locally, he has represented landlord's interests in office and medical office lease negotiations for various hospitals and high-rise commercial office buildings throughout the Chicago.
Mr. Fernandez's practice also involves the representation of many of Sonnenschein’s institutional lending clients. This financing experience includes drafting and negotiating credit agreements and related security documents for a variety of complex and sophisticated senior debt, mezzanine and equity financings involving investment funds, Bio-Medical Research facilities, industrial real estate properties, hotels, office buildings and shopping center developments throughout the United States.
Mr. Fernandez has substantial experience in the acquisition and disposition of property throughout the country for many of the firm’s institutional real estate investor clients.
In 2007, Mr. Fernandez was appointed to serve on the Illinois Medical Disciplinary Review Board, where he is currently serving a three-year term.
Mr. Fernandez has been recognized by Chambers USA: America's Leading Lawyers for Business and has been recognized in the 2007, 2008 and 2009 Editions of the Legal 500 United States, which ranks the top real estate practices and lawyers in Illinois and the United States.
Mr. Fernandez also currently serves as a member of the Steering and Management Committee of the Global Real Estate Practice Group and is a partner member on Sonnenschein's Diversity Committee. Mr. Fernandez has also served on the firm’s Recruiting Committee.
