Mr. Shafran specializes in real estate and general business matters, and has substantial experience in representing lenders, developers, investors, property owners, tenants, and other participants in a wide variety of real estate transactions, as well as small and publicly held companies in general commercial transactions. He has worked extensively in the joint venture development of commercial real estate projects including industrial and office business parks, office buildings, shopping centers, and multi-family residential units. He has been involved in real estate syndications, acquisitions, dispositions, financings and workouts, coordinating with other lawyers providing litigation, bankruptcy, tax, ERISA, and lender liability expertise.
Financial institutions represented by Mr. Shafran include Bankers Trust Company, First Bank-Illinois, Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce, Citicorp Real Estate, Wells Fargo Bank, Bank of America, ITT, The Travelers Insurance Company, Continental Bank, Ameritech Pension Trust, and The Sakura Bank, Ltd., in connection with new financing, loan restructurings and foreclosures, and sales of real estate, including office buildings, industrial projects, hotels, shopping centers, and residential properties. His transactional representation has included Disney Development Corporation in connection with land assembly and acquisition for a theme park in Anaheim, California. He has been involved in most aspects of real estate development and investment, including financing, leasing, entitlement, syndication, joint ventures, management, brokerage, construction, acquisition and disposition transactions. He has represented both landlords and tenants in numerous retail, office, and industrial leasing transactions.
Mr. Shafran's general business activities also include corporate representation of publicly and privately held companies, and he works regularly with lawyers in various other offices of the firm in connection with the representation of clients engaged in national business and real estate activities.
